Migration Guide

Move from 1Password to Claspt

Your passwords deserve context. Switch to a vault that keeps notes and secrets side by side — in portable markdown files you actually own.

Why people switch

Common frustrations that bring 1Password users to Claspt.

Rigid forms

1Password gives you fixed fields — login, card, identity. Need to store an API key with rotation notes, a server config with SSH details, or a license key with renewal instructions? You're stuck adding "notes" to a login form that wasn't designed for it.

No real notes

1Password's "Secure Notes" are plain text in a box. No markdown, no headings, no code blocks, no links between notes. If you write context around your credentials — runbooks, setup guides, config docs — you need a second app.

Vendor lock-in

Your data lives in a proprietary format on 1Password's servers. Export is CSV — you lose all structure. Stop paying and you lose access. Your most sensitive data shouldn't have a subscription requirement.

Migration in 5 steps

The whole process takes about 10 minutes.

1

Export from 1Password

Open 1Password desktop app. Go to File → Export → All Items. Choose CSV format. Save the file somewhere safe — it contains your passwords in plain text temporarily.

2

Download Claspt

Get the free desktop app for macOS, Windows, or Linux from claspt.app. Install and open it. No account required.

3

Create your vault

Create a new vault in Claspt. Set your master passphrase. This vault is stored locally as encrypted markdown files — no cloud account needed.

4

Import your CSV

Use File → Import → 1Password CSV in Claspt. Select your export file. Claspt will map 1Password fields to secret blocks inside markdown notes.

5

Organize with markdown

Now the magic starts. Add context to your credentials — write setup instructions above your server login, link related notes together, group secrets into folders. Delete the CSV export securely.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export my 1Password data to Claspt?

Yes. Export your 1Password vault as a CSV file, then use Claspt's import tool to bring everything into your new vault. Logins, secure notes, and identities all transfer.

Will I lose my passwords when switching?

No. Claspt imports your credentials from the CSV export. After verifying everything transferred correctly, you can cancel your 1Password subscription. We recommend keeping both running for a week to be safe.

Does Claspt have browser autofill?

No. Claspt is a vault-first app, not a browser extension. You copy credentials from the Claspt app when needed. If browser autofill is your top priority, 1Password is the better tool.

How does pricing compare to 1Password?

Claspt is free forever on desktop with unlimited vaults and secrets. The Pro plan ($5/month) adds mobile sync and cloud backup. 1Password costs $2.99/month for individuals with no free tier — just a 14-day trial.
